Moms and grandmothers: Celebrating Women's History Month

Posted by Tara Hardy on

Two jobs of extreme importance and very little financial pay!  Mothers and grandmothers. When I first graduated from Eastern Michigan University with my bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a teaching certificate in hand, I thought I knew it all.  My first year teaching, I taught in a multi-age classroom with 45 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders all in the same room.  It was a very fruitful year for my development.  I thought I knew everything about kids.  I looked at parenting as a hard job, but did not by any means understand it.  Now, almost 15 years later, I look back and realize that I had no idea.

Being a mother is one of the hardest jobs I have ever done. Being a grandmother…someday I will be honored to learn that job.  Mothers and grandmothers are such powerful role models for the girls of tomorrow.  Throughout March, as we celebrate these women in our own lives, let us reflect on how much these women do.  Women have come so far in history.  I cannot wait to see what our generation of women will do to inspire our next generation of powerful females.
